Maharshi Dayanand University is a public university located at Rohtak in Hariyana state of India. It was established in the year 1976 and is named after Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati. It is the major institute for higher education in the region. The university offers many courses at undergraduate, post-graduate and doctorate level. It is very famous among the students throughout the country.
It also acts as an affiliated university by providing many courses across various institutes and colleges in the province. The colleges of surrounding districts are associated with University. It was established through an Act of Legislative Assembly of Hariyana in 1976 under the aphorism to establish and integrate a teaching-cum-affiliating university in region.
It was established to encourage higher education and research with special prominence on studies of life sciences and environmental and ecological sciences. If you take a look at the record of the last 31 years, you will notice its remarkable progress in the field of education, expansion programs and infrastructural development.
There are over 13 faculties, 27 post graduate departments which also include 77 academic programs that are conducted in campus. There are over 66 boards that design and develop new courses in various syllabuses. The major feature of the MDU is satellite campus at Rewari and Gurgaon. This affiliated university covers over 126 institutes and over 1.70 lacs are taking benefit from it through various disciplines.
It has prominent Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences located in the Rohtak with a 1000 bed hospital and medical college which offers over 21 fields for specializations. University also has Dental college located in Rohtak. On campus, it has Directorate of Distance Education and over 50,000 students are taking benefit of it under 24 professional and regular courses. MDU has established six Chairs to carry out research on he lives and contributions of some famous Indians.
