Indraprastha University is also calls as Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University or GGSIPU. IPU is located at urban area of Delhi. University named as in the behalf of 10th Guru of Sikhs, Late. Guru Gobind Singh. IPU was formed in 1998 under the act of Government of NCT of Delhi. University is affiliated with University Grants Commission (UGC). This University was formed by Government because of the highly excessive load on the Delhi University, so there is a necessary to start one more University and thus this University is formed.
The main campus area of IPU is nearly 60 acres and locates at near to old Delhi. The campus is very nearby to The Red Fort and Jama Masjid. IPU has the two campuses, one is main campus and other one is Kashmere Gate campus which is of nearly 16 acres. In this Campus University has the ten schools and separate hostel for boys and girls.
The aim of IPU is to promote education in the emerging areas of higher level education. The University offers various courses in Technology, Engineering, Computer Applications, Environment Management and Business Studies etc. Currently more than 100 collages are affiliated with Indraprastha University. And the total strength of students who are pursuing different course is nearly 56,000. The admissions are done in IPU with the help of Entrance Examinations.
IPU have separate Information Resource Center which was established in 1999. The main responsibility of the Information Resource Center is to provide educational knowledge as the need of students. The service offers by this center is fully computerized and allows the member to gain access all the information On-line. It’s a fully Air conditioned infrastructure with the facility of reading room and document delivery services.
