About IGNOU
The Indira Gandhi National Open University, (IGNOU) was the prime university in India. The name of the university was formed under the name of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. In 1985, the university began its operation with the motto of “Education for all”
The main objective of the university is to achieve success in the education sector. It has launched a distance and open educational programs that meets the needs of the deprived society in India. By providing these educational programs, the university helps the students and motivates them to be organized in the educational background. At the same time, it will boost the human resource of the nation.
The university has an association with various regional centers that include 1804 study centers and 58 regional centers across the country. It also runs the counseling session for the student’s students. Besides this, IGNOU has build huge networks that comprises of 961 centers of study across India and more than 1300,000 students had enrolled in the university.
The university has wide coverage of geographical network with in the country specifically in Asia and Africa. The university has also occupied with the Multi-Media learning through self-instructional illustrated print materials, audiocassettes, video programmes, phone-in radio counselling and teleconferencing form the package of delivery for distance education. It has associated with Gyan Darshan - the educational TV channel, Gyan Vani FM Radio Stations and the EDUSAT, a dedicated satellite for education.
Since its inception, the university has made its standing in the field of educational sector. It has been known as the fifth largest Open University in the world. Today, the university offers courses that comprises of Ph.D programs, Master's Degree Programs, Bachelor's Degree Programs, PG Diploma programs, Diploma Programs and the Certificate Programs across the country.
