The concept of creation of one indigenous commercial bank, emerged from one dignified industrialist of the pre-independence age of India, could finally came into existence in the name of United Commercial Bank in the year 1943. The idea got some fuel from the Quit India movement of 1942. Later on the bank was renamed as UCO Bank in the year 1985. The institution was initially established at the ‘City of joy, in Kolkata with a perfect national attitude. Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla was the key person behind the establishment of this entity.
UCO Bank has been performing in India for last 67 years and has been able to penetrate the Indian market to a great extent. In the year 1969, the bank was nationalized with 13 other Indian banks, by the Govt. of India.

The Bank has been operating through 2000 plus units throughout the country and two of its foreign offices at Hongkong and Singapore. The network is further enriched by 415+ ATMs over the country. In addition they are having agency arrangements and correspondents all over the world. UCO bank is handling foreign exchange business through more than 50 centers all over India. A well diversified asset portfolio along with the potential customer base is the main pillar of the structure of the organization.
The Bank has been managing its administration through a three tire structure. The presence of 35 Regional Offices over the country is in between the Head Office and the branches of the Bank. The Head Office is situated in Kolkata, West Bengal.
Distinctive feature
UCO Bank has successfully declared its branches as ‘No Holiday’ service units, which are open for banking transactions round the year. It was also one of the first commercial banks to get computerized in India and abroad.
