Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar has laid the foundation of Annamalai University in the year 1928. Annamalai Chettiar was the noble philanthropist whose vision was to set - up the education sector for the progress of the nation. The university is situated at Annamalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu, India. It offers courses in various field of higher education that comprises of Arts, Science, Indian Languages, Engineering and Technology, Education, fine Arts, Agriculture, Medicine, Dentistry etc.
Annamalai University has constantly striving enhancement for the process of infrastructure and educational programs. The university has a virtue that offer more than 380 courses under distance method and considered being well-recognized university across the globe. The university also provides education facilities under Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), who were unable to fulfil their studies due to some personal problem and willing for further studies.
The Annanmalai University is the oldest university and one of the biggest universities in the state of Tamil nadu after the madras university. The university shares it remarkable progress and success to the Vice-Chancellors who leads the destiny of Annamalai University. Over the last seventy year, the university had maintain its position in the education sector and gains rapid growth and development for academic process as a unitary and residential which comprises of 2,500 members on its teaching staff.
The university has fully covered with an area of Annamalainagar and began full-fledged functioning of the university in the east of Chidambaram town, the residence of Nataraj. The University campus comprises of colleges, hostels and playground, which occupies the area of about one thousand five hundred acres (4.5 km²).
With the growing demand of an educational sector, the university began its operation in the outside country. In 2005, the university set-up its first campus in Toronto, Canada and provides classes for learning Indian fine arts which include dance and music. The university also has overseas centre in Dubai.
