Jadavpur University is also known as JU which is a nick name. Jadavpur University is located at Kolkata, West Bengal. The University was established in 1955 by the Government of India under the Jadavpur University Act. The University has the two campuses, one is at Jadavpur and another one is at Salt Lake which is a new campus. All major faculties of University like science and arts are recognized by UGC. UGC also awarded Jadavpur University as the Potential for Excellence. NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) graded this university with the five star rating. This University is nominated for TEQIP, which is the funded programme of the World Bank. Jadavpur University is also affiliated to the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science which is the leading research institute in India.
The University has the two campuses as above mention. The area of the Jadavpur campus is around 58 acres and Salt Lake campus has 26 acres of area. The Jadavpur campus has the main departments like Engineering, Science and Arts. The central library and the workshop is also locates at the Jadavpur campus. Other five engineering departments are locates at Salt Lake campus. The main ground of Salt Lake campus is given on the leased to the Cricket Association of Bengal. Many times this ground is used for the playing for interstate cricket matches.
The strength of the students in the University for the Different Program is around 9000 approximately, in which 5000 are for Undergraduate courses and 4000 are for post graduate courses. Placement facility is also a very good facility provided by the JU. For the purpose of good Placement University offers the Industrial Training and Soft Skills development tanning to the students. Nearly 100 companies visited to the campus every year for the campus recruitment.
