IGNOU is known as Indira Gandhi National Open University. This is a nationalized open university in India. IGNOU was established in 1985 under the Indira Gandhi National Open University Act which was approved in Indian Parliament in 1985. This university is also one of the largest University in the world in terms of students who taking the education in it. More than 3.5 million students are posses the different programmes in the University. The budget of University is around 2000 core rupees. IGNOU is located at New Delhi. The main aim of University is to provide the education to the people from ruler area and to the coordinates who are away from higher education.
Indira Gandhi National Open University has more than 320 academic staff faculty with 1,400 admin staff. University mainly offers distance education programmes but with also they offer regular and online courses. The university also serves in more than 40 abroad countries like Sri Lanka, UK, Qatar, Oman, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Ghana, Nepal, Kenya, France, Mauritius and Vietnam etc. IGNOU has 2600 study centers across the India and 52 centers in abroad countries. Around 20% students in India are taking the education through the Indira Gandhi National Open University. The University offers nearly 175 different programmes which are of Diploma, Degree level. IDNOU also has 21 schools in all over India.
The University has the affiliations with many different authorities of Indian Government such as University Grants Commission (UGC), AICTE, COL, DEC and AIU etc. IGNOU also conducts seminars regarding open Universities with coopering UNESCO. These kinds of seminars are useful for the growth of Open Universities in India.
