The Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) was established on 23

rd December 1976 through the provisions made in the Mizoram Board of School Education Act 1975, enacted by the State Legislature of Mizoram and notified by Govt. of Mizoram vide No. LJD 18/75/70 dated 27th March 1976. With its inception, all matters relating to academic and examinations ( upto the Secondary level) of the State which earlier fell under the purview of the Board of Secondary Education of Assam (SEBA) came under the jurisdiction of the MBSE. The Higher Secondary Stage (Classes XI & XII) was also taken over in the year 1996.
