The Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test or/and interview/portfolio review, if required, based on performance in GATE/CEED, grades/marks in the qualifying examination, etc.

Application forms and Information Brochures can also be obtained from the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati - 781 039, Assam, personally or by ordinary Post. To receive application forms by post, send a request along with a self-addressed unstamped envelope (24cm x 15cm size). Request for a form must be sent in an envelope super-scribed with ‘Request for MTech/MDes Application form’ (as may be applicable). For example, a candidate interested in applying for MTech programme, should super-scribe on his/her envelope as ‘Request for MTech Application form’.
Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials and a DD for Rs.150/- (Rs.75/- for SC/ST/PD candidates) drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Guwahati in favour of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati should be sent to the Head of the concerned Department (as may be applicable), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati – 781039, Assam, to reach on or before 13 APRIL 2011. The words “Application for MTech/MDes admission” (as may be applicable) should be written on the top of the envelope for sending the completed form. For example, a candidate interested in applying for MTech programme in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, should (a) send the filled-in application form to The Head, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati – 781 039, Assam, and (b) on the top of the envelope also write the words “Application for MTech admission”. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE ONLY, AND THE CANDIDATES WILL HAVE TO ENSURE THAT THEIR APPLICATIONS ARE ADDRESSED CORRECTLY AND SENT TO THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT, SINCE NO CLAIM LATER ON WILL BE ENTERTAINED FOR ANY WRONGLY ADDRESSED APPLICATION FORM. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT SEPARATE APPLICATION IS REQUIRED FOR EVERY DEPARTMENT/CENTRE.
About IIT Guwahati
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995.
The history of IIT Guwahati traces its roots to the 1985 Assam Accord signed between the AASU and the Govt. of India, which mentions the general improvement in education facilities in Assam and specifically the setting up of an IIT.
IITG was established in 1994 by an act of parliament and its academic programme commenced in 1995.[1] IITG admitted its first batch of students into its Bachelor of Technology programme in 1995. The selection process was the same as that of all IITs, i.e. through the Joint Entrance Examination.[7] In 1998, the first batch of students were accepted into the Master of Technology program through the GATE.
