Madurai Kamaraj University is a public university established in the year 1966 in India. In ancient times, the university was named under the city heart of Madurai – the capital of pandaya ruler and the place of 3 renowned Tamil academicians. Since the inception of Madurai Kamraj University, it has acquired 18 schools along with 72 departments. With the demand of education sector, the directorate of distance education affiliated with nine autonomous colleges and other institute including seven evening colleges.
Within two year, Dr.Zakir Hussein – the president of India, formed the new campus. (Madurai) The campus is located in city – Theni rd, which is 13km away from the west. However, the university has grown exponentially and become well - known across the community
The university has an area of about 750 acres that is beautifully covered with tress. In 1978, the university was honor under the title “Madurai Kamaraj University” and established a place in the educational sector. The university title covey 2 messages - live in a proud tradition of the Tamils and the current axis refers to the ideals.
The university center offers research activity to the professor. Moreover, other activity has carried out with the Department of Youth Welfare, NSS, SC/ST cell and Adult Education programmes.
The university conducts educational program to Undergraduate and Postgraduate and various Professional courses such as Research oriented courses, Job oriented courses, Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma and P. G.

It has awarded with the status of “University with Potential for Excellence” – under the consent of university Grant Commission and consider of the prime university in the country.
