Annamalai University is an India State University. Annamala University is located in Annamalia Nagar; Tamil Nadu .the University was incepted in 1929 by Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar a great philanthropist and visionary which have the great desire towards the development of education in the state. The university is affiliated by UGC. This university is one of the biggest and oldest university in south India. The university provides several fields in higher education in science, arts, engineering and technology, Indian languages, medicine, agriculture, fine arts, dentistry etc. AS recently Annamalai university has opened a campus for teaching Indian fine Arts in Toronto, Canada it also open other centers Al Mihad Institute in Dubai, Al Noor Education Centre in Muscat, Oman and Al Hilal Education Centre, Sharjah in UAE
The university when established at that time they started with only 7 departments. After seventy five years the university established itself as a mighty institution of higher learning with nearly 48 Departments, in all 9 Faculties. This was one of the institutions in India which have all faculties located in same campus. The university has good equipped central library and providing very good facilities for project work of post-doctoral and Ph.D. The University campus, included the college, playgrounds and hostel, it covers an area of about 1000 acres.
The University offers various facilities like girls and boys hostel. It also provide yoga center In main and central library ,auditorium and sports complex, co- operative stores and staff recreation club and other facilities like guest house, hospitals and captive power generation. The university provides more than three hundred eighty courses under distance mode. The directorate of distance education of Annamalai University is existence in 1979. The directorate of distance education aim is to provide education to those people who want to attend study on part time basis or correspondence.
